For this week, let’s focus on college football. If you have not noticed already, at the bottom of this blog is a link to a video about University of Utah football. This year was expected to be a great year with plenty of scoring and a strong defense to limit the scoring of the opponent.
At the start of the football season two weeks ago, the UofU team lost key players to injuries and a bad defeat. The next week should have been an easy win, but more injuries to key players again caused suffering and a defeat. The hope of a great season was gone; time to expect defeat after defeat for the year.
Meanwhile the team down south (BYU) was rolling forward with their opening day win and faced a tough UCLA team, but mistakes and a poor start doomed them to defeat. The Cougars were looking like a very good team for this year, with new players emerging as stars for the next two or three years.

This brings us to Saturday’s games. I didn’t expect Utah to play very good against #11 ranked UCLA. A PAC-10 school loaded with talented players who can dominate a game. The halftime score caused a ray of hope – Utah – 14 UCLA – 6. Could the Utes pull off the big upset? David defeating Goliath? The third quarter proved miracles do exist, that the underdog can always find a way to win once in awhile. 13 points in the third quarter increased the Utah lead to 27-6. The fourth quarter was just icing on the cake. Final score, 44-6.
The day was the happiest day of the football season thus far. The Utes had finally showed to play, despite the loss of key players. Where was this team the last two weeks? Maybe the professors had tired them out with their boring “welcome back to college” lectures. Two weeks is gone and the students know when to skip the boring classes so they can concentrate on having fun and playing hard like they know how to do.
Then later that evening BYU got beaten by Tulsa, a team not expected to compete with BYU. Tulsa put up 55 points to BYU’s 47. A nice shoot-out score, but clearly not what BYU fans had expected. The lose must be hard on BYU fans, but even more worse knowing that Utah just clobbered the UCLA team BYU could not beat. The rivalry will be very interesting this year. The rivalry banter has started early.

Other than football, not much is on my mind this fall season. I’m just trying to find ways to win my fantasy football games and enjoying the college football season now that Utah has finally risen from their hibernation.

All this talk about Utah football just made me want to say one thing: have you seen how AWESOME the Gators are doing? Yeah, guessed we picked the right university for graduate school! Go Gators!!!

Yes, Tyler was sad that he didn't get to watch this on TV, but even worse, his little brother Zach had tickets to the game, but didn't go because he thought they would lose and his family was going to Bear Lake. He was so mad he skipped out on the game while he was listening to it on the radio. Poor guys.
